First, we need to make a base (on which wooden letterbox sits and attaches to). We will secure the sides of the base with the help of a finish gun. You must nail each side of it and then reinforce everywhere that you've nailed with the help of a galvanized screw, this will help in the stability of letterbox.
2. Sides of Box
Now it’s time to cut the sides of a box. While cutting the sides please remember to wear the safety glasses which will help in protecting your eyes. After cutting all the sides, screw them to the base.
Bottom dimensions length should be 1 x 10 inches and cut that piece to 20 inches in length.
- 1 x 7 inch cut it according to the length of 20 inches
- Cut two pieces of this size.
- Now, its time to nail them with the base (sides and bottom)
Next, we must cut two pieces for the roof according to the measurements. 1 x 7 inch and cut them to the length of 22 inches.
Using a meter saw it is time to cut roof peak, normal angle for a peak varies from 30-40 degrees, here we will cut according to 30 degrees.
4. Front Dimensions
It's time to make the door for your mailbox. Cut it according to the angle you have chosen above which is 30 degrees. Now fit it up on the roof peak and nail it with the nail gun on to the roof.
Next step is to cut another smaller piece like the one we have cut above and make sure it is only 3 inches high. You can use magnets too, to keep the doors closed.
5. Dimensions of a Door
According to our mailbox dimensions, the door needs to be 8 ½ x 7 inches wide. With the help of a piano hinge, you can attach your door easily.
Our mailbox is almost ready and its time to use a sandpaper, it will help in filling of all the holes.
